Iguacu National Park - quati

The quati is regarded as the symbol animal of the Iguaçú National Park. 

QUATI (Nasua nasua)*


General: small eyes and ears and a long snout. Very active, weighing from 3 to 9kg and 70 to 120cm long.
Coat: a wide variety of colors; from dark brown to light brown, light and dark rings on tail. Abundant and long fur, including on tail.
Found throughout South America.
Habitat: forests
Habits: diurnal, sleep on trees. Live in groups from 4 to 30 individuals and communicate through special sounds.
Diet: it varies in accordance with the season of the year; small vertebrates, insectsand fruit.
Reproduction: pregnancy period from 10 to 11 weeks; offspring from 2 to 7. Nest on trees and young males are expelled from group at the time new offspring is born.
Threats: destruction of their habitats.
